Star Trek
& the Enneagram The enneagram is a system of nine personality types. Each type has a core motivation that guides behavior - behavior that can range from the best a person is capable of to the very worst. Why the enneagram and Star Trek? To give me an excuse to watch lots of Star Trek? Maybe, but also because the Star Trek world offers a wide range of fascinating characters that provide a great look at the complexity of the enneagram. Applying the enneagram to fictional representations is a two-way street: It both increases my understanding of the enneagram (including my own type and those of people I know), and it increases my appreciation of the fiction in question. Characters become that much more interesting when you see the motivations guiding what they do. I aim for this site to be a growing collection of essays on the enneagram as seen in Star Trek characters. Whether you're here as a Trekker or an enneagram enthusiast, or both, I hope you'll find what's here informative and fun! Note: I cannot promise that the essays will be spoiler-free. I'll try not to give away too much, but sometimes the analysis is going to call for it. Consider yourself warned! |
